Ingredients

1 Cup Basmati Rice
2 Cups Water
¼ Tspn salt (to taste)
2 Tbsp Ghee (or olive oil)
1 Tspn Cumin Seeds (or ground cumin)
¼ Tspn Ground Sumac (optional)
2 Bay Leaves
1 Tbsp Chopped parsley (optional)

How to Do

Jeera rice literally means cumin rice. Made with basmati rice, this recipe is the perfect pairing with flavorful curries, like Butter Chicken, Tikka Masala and Chana Chole!

Directions:

 

STEP 1:

Thoroughly rinse the rice to remove the starch and ensure separate grains when cooked.

 

STEP 2:

Bring the 2 cups of water to a boil and add the rinsed rice and salt. Cover, reduce the heat to low and cook for 15 to 20 minutes until the rice is tender and all the water has been absorbed. Fluff with a fork.

 

STEP 3:

Add the ghee or olive oil to a pan along with the cumin seeds, sumac and bay leaves. Cook for about a minute on medium high heat until the seeds are crackling. Turn off the heat, carefully remove the bay leaves and pour the hot mixture over the rice. Sprinkle with the parsley, if using.

Serve hot.
