Chili Paneer Recipe

12.5oz Paneer Cheese (2 cups in cubes)
1 cup red pepper
½ cup yellow onion
2 cloves garlic
1 green chili pepper
½ tsp ginger
1 cup Red Chili Sauce
1 ½ tbsp corn flour
1 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp sesame oil
1 tsp brown sugar
1 tsp Red Chili Powder
1 tsp Aleppo Chili Flake
Pinch of salt and black pepper (to taste)

How to Do

A flavorfully East Asian inspired take on the classic Indian paneer. Spicy, cooked in a semi-gravy of garlic, onions and red pepper. Oh so delicious.

Utensils: mixing bowl, pan

Suggested Pairing: rice, salad





Roughly chop the onion, the chili pepper and the red pepper. Slice the garlic and mince the ginger. Dice the cheese.


STEP 2:  

Place the cheese in a large mixing bowl or a plastic food bag and add the corn flour, red chili powder and allepo chili flakes. Toss to coat evenly.


STEP 3: 

Heat the oil in a deep non-stick pan and sauté the cheese for a few seconds in each side until golden brown, together with the chopped onions, chili pepper and red pepper. Add the garlic and the ginger last.



Add the brown sugar, mix gently to caramelize and deglaze with the soy sauce. Add the harissa paste or the red chili sauce.



Allow to simmer for a couple of minutes seasoning with salt and black pepper to taste (optional to add black pepper). The corn flour will thicken the sauce effortlessly. Serve warm with sticky rice and mixed greens.
