Baharat Spiced Meatballs Recipe
Preparation Time : 15 Mins
Total Time: 35 Mins
2 cups ground beef
1 small finely chopped onion
1 clove minced garlic
¼ cup whole wheat breadcrumbs
1 1/2 tbsp all purpose flour
Salt to taste
How to Do
These ground beef meatballs are a must try. A delicious vegetarian alternative is to create lentil balls. Spiced with baharat, a Middle Eastern spice blend consisting of cumin, cinnamon, black peppercorns... to name a few. We added them to tzatziki & topped with harissa!
Utensils: large bowl, wide plate mix, frying pan
Suggested Pairing: rice, pita sandwich, veggies
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with the chopped onion, the minced garlic, the ground Baharat, cayenne pepper, the ghee and the breadcrumbs. Squeeze in the juice of half a lemon (or lime), season with salt and knead with your hands to get a workable dough.
Shape into meatballs. The smaller the meatballs the crispier they’ll get.
In a wide plate mix the flour with the extra pinch of Baharat to taste. Roll the meatballs in the flour mix to lightly coat each piece. Dust off the excess flour.
Heat the ghee (or vegetable oil) in a frying pan and cook the meatballs tossing occasionally to ensure even distribution of the heat, until golden brown. Serve warm!
