Baharat Spiced Meatballs

These ground beef and lamb meatballs are seasoned with flavorful Middle Eastern spices. Vegetarian friends, a delicious alternative is to create lentil balls. These meatballs spotlight baharat, a Middle Eastern spice blend consisting of cumin, cinnamon, black peppercorns... to name a few. We created a hearty bowl by adding them ontop of a cool yogurt tzatziki spread, garnished with sliced cucumbers and topped with spicy harissa sauce. Wow!

Directions

1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with the chopped onion, the minced garlic, the ground Baharat, cayenne pepper, the ghee and the breadcrumbs. Squeeze in the juice of half a lemon (or lime), season with salt and knead with your hands to get a workable dough.

2

Shape into meatballs. The smaller the meatballs the crispier they’ll get.

3

In a wide plate mix the flour with the extra pinch of Baharat to taste. Roll the meatballs in the flour mix to lightly coat each piece. Dust off the excess flour.

4

Heat the ghee (or vegetable oil) in a frying pan and cook the meatballs tossing occasionally to ensure even distribution of the heat, until golden brown. Serve warm!
